Parly ("Parly", "we", "us") is operated by Teodor Costache, a sole proprietor based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. This Policy explains what we collect when you use Parly at parly.org, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Parly, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use it.
We collect as little as we need. Your name is not shown to anyone until you choose to step forward. There is no in-app chat.
Parly is for people aged 18 and older in the United States. It is not directed to anyone in the European Union or other regions outside the United States.
When you sign in, Google shares your name, email, profile picture, and Google account identifier. We do not receive your Google password.
The areas of expertise and specialties you choose, links you save, whether you are open to remote work, how far you will travel, and a US ZIP code. We keep the ZIP, and the city, state, and coordinates derived from it, on our servers so we can tell whether a local project sits inside your travel radius. Other members never see your ZIP or coordinates. Cards show a city (for example, Cambridge, MA) or "Remote."
If you verify an affiliation, we collect your institutional (.edu) email, look up the school from that domain, and email a one-time code. You may also request a review by messaging Parly on LinkedIn with your Member ID.
Title, description, the areas of expertise and specialties you are seeking, a respond-by date, remote or a ZIP, and any optional school filter (up to three). A member post does not include a way to reach you. Someone who is interested sends a note on Parly: a message, a way for you to reach them, and optional links. A concierge flyer stores a contact line and a name chosen for that post. Those are shown only after someone chooses Interested.
Our host may process limited technical data such as your IP address and basic request logs. We use an essential cookie to keep you signed in. If you open an ambassador's link, we also store a visitor id and that ambassador's code for up to a year, so we can tell who introduced you. The page background is drawn with a library loaded from jsDelivr, and the type on these pages is loaded from Google Fonts. We do not use analytics or advertising trackers.
What we do not collect: payment information (you cannot buy credits during the beta), and we do not store chat messages.
We use your information to:
We compare the areas of expertise and specialties on a project with the ones on a profile, then apply location, remote, and any school filter. Those filters stay on Parly's servers. When we ask TypeSafe to score how close someone's work is to a project, we send the project title, the project description, the area of expertise being sought and its specialties, and the specialties that person listed for that area. Before a post is confirmed, we also send TypeSafe the title, description, and any additional material so it can flag personal information, advertising, or inappropriate language. We do not send TypeSafe a member's name, a note, a contact line, their location, or a school affiliation. If your search does not match an area on our list, we send that phrase to TypeSafe so we can suggest areas from our list. The first time your profile is complete, we score the areas you saved against open projects that still have room, and a fit appears in For You. Areas you add after that are used when someone posts a new project. Removing an area hides the For You cards that were only seeking it, and adding that area back shows those cards again. Changing your ZIP, radius, remote setting, or affiliation updates what you see and does not score open projects again. It does not send a new-match email. Those emails go out when someone else posts.
We share information only as described here. We do not sell your personal information. We do not hand anyone a list of names.
A small number of providers process data only to run Parly for us:
If you post a member project, people who fit can see the post, its city or Remote label, and the areas of expertise you are seeking. They do not see your name. Someone who is interested sends a note. You then see their name, school affiliation if they have one, message, how to reach them, links, and the areas of expertise the post asked for. The email that a note arrived does not include any of that. You choose how often that email is sent, on your profile. While a school address is stored, that email goes there. Otherwise it goes to your login address. A concierge flyer is different: choosing Interested shows the name and contact line stored on that post, and there is no note.
Anyone can open See who's on Parly and see how many members have chosen each area of expertise. The number is the real count, including one. An area with nobody is left off. A ZIP keeps people whose travel radius reaches that ZIP. That page does not show names, schools, or contact information. A count of one in a narrow area can make a person easier to guess. We may also use areas of expertise to produce other aggregated counts. If you verify with a school, we may share counts about members affiliated with that school, with that school.
We may show a project publicly, including on social media, in a form that does not reveal your identity or contact information.
We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Parly, our members, or others.
We do not put your profile in front of people. Nobody sees who you are until you send a note, or until you are the person named on a concierge flyer after someone chooses Interested. ZIP and coordinates stay on the server. The poster of a member project does not see everyone who matched. They see the people who sent a note.
We use an essential cookie to keep you signed in. An ambassador link also sets a visitor id and a referral code, kept for up to a year, and only used to credit that ambassador. We do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking cookies. We do not track you across other sites, so we do not respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals.
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account and associated data at any time from your account menu, or by emailing contact@parly.org. We will delete it within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep a limited record. Residual copies may remain in backups for a short period before they are overwritten.

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information. Email contact@parly.org.
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including serving Parly over HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Parly is not for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe someone under 18 has given us information, email contact@parly.org and we will delete it.
We may update this Policy. When we do, we will revise the effective date above, and for material changes we will take reasonable steps to notify you. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Policy.
